We went to see the July 4th fireworks in New York City at Southstreet Sea Port. Needless to say, unless if you had camped there starting a week a ago, there wasn't much decent viewing space to see any fireworks. We thought we had a prime spot, only to find out that the fireworks was on the opposite side of the freeway where we hunched.
No wonder we could see the sky from the first spot. Evidently everybody else was in on it except us. We scurried over like blind moles following the sound of the fireworks, but the only spot that wasn't overinfested by spectators was smack under the freeway. We might as well have had balcony seats at an opera house directly behind a column. Nevertheless, every so once in a while, we caught glimpses of colored rosettes in their mayfly lifespans floating in the sky.
Just enough "ooh" and "ahh" to have made the scavenge worth it.
